Description
The Civil Engineer I plays a key role in managing and planning public infrastructure projects for the city, including streets, drainage, water, sewer, parks, and Building Code operations. This position requires independent work, technical expertise, and collaboration with other departments and the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Be available 24/7 for emergency response situations.
- Manage project-related record-keeping, computer systems, and public communication.
- Prepare and present technical documents, plans, and calculations.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (ADEQ, EPA, ARDOT, etc.).
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor construction quality and progress.
- Assist in construction layout and project control.
- Operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Preferred experience in street, water, and sewer system design.
- Strong understanding of Civil Engineering principles, techniques, and industry practices.
- Knowledge of land surveying practices.
- Certifications and Licensing
- Successful completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Valid Arkansas driver's license.
- Valid Arkansas Engineer Intern (EIT) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Skills and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with staff, consultants, officials, and the community.
- Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads or similar engineering design software.
- Knowledge of City, State, and Federal laws and regulations related to public works projects.
Ability to develop detailed plans, reports, and documentation for project execution.
